Hi all,

First post, be gentle!

I just wondered if anyone had a chance to try out various trackers on a typical netbook spec (e.g. Windows, Atom 1.6, 1G ram, HD tek audio) and what their experiences were?

I've given Renoise a quick whirl and plan to fire up Milky also later, possible FT2 also..and gutted Skale has stalled Sad (if there are other dos interface style trackers with a mixer and basic vsti please yell)..

I'll work my way through but if you have anything to share please shout up Smiley also if you know of any easy render vsti -> wav utils (this is coming in Renoise 2.5 iirc) or really really low cpu vsti for chip/synth that would useful to know also.

Cheers,
LW.

Well, for chiptune-style sounds, there's just no need for VSTi plugins...  Just draw those waves!

There's a couple good YM and SID plugins, though...  Don't remember what they're called (at the office - will check when I get home)

As for the netbook - I have a Asus eee900 with Xubuntu 9.04 on which I run MilkyTracker and Open MPT (via Wine).  Both work great.  I have Milky installed on a 2gb memory card along with my samples, so I pop it in and *poof* I have an instant DCW (Digital Chiptune Workstation).

For chiptunes, Milky is the way to go.  Easy, fast, fun, functional.  Make sure you have an external (full-size) mouse though.

For everything else, Open MPT is pretty much my favorite...  I use Renoise when I need a VST host.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I like to idea of having samples + software on usb stick. I noticed wavosaur runs standalone also, so that's another good tool to add in for the stick.

Have you seen the indamixx 'os' btw?

Cheers,
LW.

Hi,

Also i found out yesterday that renoise runs right off a memory stick also, just copy program files\renoise over for windows. Cool.

Cheers,
LW.
