Greetings, I have recently begun to explore Modding/Tracking for the purpose of implementing low-storage-cost music playback for embedded systems games development.
The internet has led me to ModPlug Tracker, which seems to have a nice interface, and it is free. I under the basics of how the technology works, but I'm finding a few gaps in the "how to" documentation available on the internet. I read through the Beginner section of the Trackers Handbook website, but the focus there is on creating good music, not on how to get your software up and running. It assumes a few steps that I have not completed yet.
So.. the questions:
How do I create an instrument in ModPlug Tracker 1.16?
My steps so far: File Menu-> New -> XM : This opens a module window with 5 tabs, General, Patterns, Samples, Instruments, Comments.
These tab names are self explanatory, but initially the confusing one is the instrument tab.
I see that on the Samples tab I can load in wav files or other basic media to create the samples and name/number them for use.
However, in the instruments tab, I only see that I can open Instrument Files with extensions xi, pat, or iti. I can also open a keyboard window, showing a few octaves at a time of the "Sample Map"... and as such I assume that I need to build an instrument from Samples. Just not sure how to put it together.
Also... once I create an instrument, if someone could list the steps to mapping an instrument to module channel in the general window, that would probably save me some more guesswork.
Thank you for your time, I appreciate there being a forum to ask such questions.
Kind Regards, Seth
