howdy trackers!!
I newly registered, guess there haven't been alot of fuss about this site recently..
low activity was my 1st impression, to bad on a site this old.
Ah well, i ain't gonna start weepin tears over the "grand old days of the scene" (since i never participated myself) so i instead give a short description of myself:
Been tracking since: 2003
Been (knowingly) listening to tracked formats since: 2000, excluding the doom music and such i heard from my pals 486 pc back in 1996 , guess that's MIDI sounds anyways?
Inspirational sources: Dr awesome, Vogue, various Swedish trubadours like Winnerbäck and Anders F, Rez, SID-tunes (HVSC) and SAP-tunes, mainly Tomasz Liebich. Also, i'm trying to get a fingertip feeling for reggae.
Trackers and Equipment: Soundtracker (Linux) Milkytracker (Linux and WIN32) Berotracker (Win 32) and a 4-string bassguitar
And finally, a question: I've found a lot of old samples, they're all starting with st-numbersomethin', where do they origin
Welcome!
Yes it's true the site has been on a decline as of late. Server problems recently took a large toll on some budding activity, but on the whole, as the tracker scene has been splitting with the internet music scene, and Demoscene, The site has lost a lot of it's momentum from yesteryear.
You've definitely chosen a classic path for tracking, from the software selection... It's a very good way to get started.
In regards to those ST-XX samples, these are from the classic "Ultimate Soundtracker" from the Amiga. If you're not familiar with this software, it's because it is the FIRST tracker. Those samples are in literally thousands of tunes from the late 80's/Early 90's.
Aminet.net has the whole collection - The link is to their mod/inst file section. I was using one of the Bass samples from st-01 in impulse Tracker up until 1998... In the late 90's early 2000's they became "Hackish and unoriginal" but I'm sure if you used them now they'd have some historic novelty value. There's over 100 ST-xx disks.
